Sumo Tablet
Sumo Tablet is a fast-acting pain relief medicine manufactured and marketed by Alkem Laboratories Ltd, formulated as a combination of Nimesulide BP 100mg and Paracetamol IP 325mg in each uncoated tablet. Nimesulide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing the production of prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and inflammation at the site of injury. Paracetamol complements this action by acting on the brain’s pain and temperature-regulating centres, giving additional relief from pain and fever. Together, this combination provides quicker and more effective relief than either medicine alone, making Sumo Tablet a widely trusted choice for moderate to severe pain conditions such as osteoarthritis, toothache, back pain, muscle sprains and post-operative pain. The tablet is coloured with Sunset Yellow FCF and is supplied in convenient blister strips of 15 tablets each, packed as 10 x 2 combi blister strips for a full course. Sumo Tablet is best taken after food to minimise the chance of stomach irritation, and it should be swallowed whole with a glass of water rather than crushed or chewed. Because it is a Schedule H drug, it should only be taken on the advice and prescription of a registered medical practitioner, and the dose or duration should never be increased beyond what is prescribed. This medicine is not intended for use in children below 12 years of age. Patients on long-term therapy should have their liver function monitored periodically, as extended use of Nimesulide carries a risk of liver-related side effects.
