Nitrocontin 2.6 Tablet CR is a prescription heart medicine from Modi-Mundipharma used to treat and prevent angina, the chest pain or pressure that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen-rich blood. Each uncoated tablet contains diluted Nitroglycerin IP equivalent to 2.6 mg of Nitroglycerin in the CONTINUS controlled-release system. How It Works

Nitroglycerin is a nitrate that is converted in the body to nitric oxide, a natural substance that relaxes the smooth muscle in blood vessel walls. As the veins widen, less blood returns to the heart, and as the arteries widen, the heart pumps against lower pressure. This reduces the heart’s workload and oxygen needs while improving blood supply to the heart muscle, which helps prevent the chest pain of angina.

How to Use

• Take the tablet as directed by your doctor, commonly one tablet twice daily.
• Swallow it whole with water; do not chew, crush or break it.
• Take doses at fixed times each day as advised, to help prevent tolerance.
• This tablet does not stop an angina attack already in progress; use the fast-acting medicine prescribed for that.

Safety Advice

• This is a Schedule H prescription medicine; use only under medical supervision.
• Never combine it with erectile dysfunction medicines such as sildenafil or tadalafil, as blood pressure can fall dangerously.
• Tell your doctor if you have anaemia, glaucoma, low blood pressure, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Headache is the most common side effect; dizziness may also occur, so rise slowly, avoid alcohol and do not drive if affected.
• Do not stop suddenly without medical advice. Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture, and discard remaining tablets 8 weeks after opening.
