Baclotab 25 mg Tablet SR – Baclofen 25 mg Sustained Release by Alteus
Baclotab 25 from Alteus Biogenics contains Baclofen IP 25 mg in an uncoated sustained release tablet. Baclofen relieves spasticity – the continuous, painful muscle tightness that follows spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis or stroke. It is a GABA-B agonist: it mimics the brain’s main inhibitory signal at the level of the spinal cord, quietening the reflex loop that keeps muscles clenched. Plain baclofen is short-acting and usually taken three times daily; the sustained release form spreads the same drug over a longer period, which reduces the peaks that cause drowsiness and gives steadier relief between doses. Strip of 15 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Uses & Benefits
- Relieves painful muscle spasm and stiffness (spasticity)
- Reduces the involuntary spasms of multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury
- Improves the ability to move, walk and take part in physiotherapy
- Eases the night-time cramps and jerks that disrupt sleep
- Reduces pain caused by continuously contracted muscle
- Long-established treatment with decades of clinical use
Directions for Use
- Take exactly as prescribed – baclofen is always started low and increased in steps
- Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew, crush or split it – that destroys the sustained release and delivers the whole dose at once
- Take it at the same times each day, with or after food if it upsets your stomach
- Never stop suddenly – abrupt withdrawal is dangerous and the dose must be tapered by your doctor
- Avoid alcohol, which greatly increases the drowsiness
Precautions
- Never stop baclofen suddenly. Abrupt withdrawal can cause fever, confusion, hallucinations, rebound spasticity and, rarely, seizures. It must always be tapered by your doctor
- Drowsiness and dizziness are common, especially in the first weeks. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you
- Avoid alcohol and other sedatives – they multiply the drowsiness
- Some spasticity is useful. If a patient relies on stiff legs to stand or transfer, relaxing the muscle too much can make walking harder – tell your doctor if this happens
- The dose is reduced in kidney disease. Tell your doctor about kidney problems, epilepsy, stroke, or a history of stomach ulcers
- Weakness, nausea, confusion and low blood pressure can occur; report anything that troubles you rather than stopping the tablet yourself
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry and dark place, protected from light, as printed on the pack
- Keep tablets in the original blister until use
- Keep out of reach of children
