Voveran SR 100 Tablet – Diclofenac Prolonged Release Tablets IP 100 mg

Voveran SR 100 is Diclofenac Prolonged Release Tablets IP 100 mg – film-coated, sustained-release, and the original Novartis brand of diclofenac, now marketed in India by Dr Reddy’s. The “SR” is the whole point of this presentation. Plain diclofenac has a short half-life of only one to two hours, so an immediate-release tablet has to be taken two or three times a day and produces a sharp peak each time – and it is the peak concentration, not the average, that drives most of the stomach irritation. The prolonged-release matrix spreads the same 100 mg out over roughly a day, giving a single daily tablet with a flatter concentration curve, which suits the constant background pain of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis far better than repeated dosing. The matrix only works if the tablet is swallowed whole – breaking or crushing it releases the full 100 mg at once. Strip of 15 film-coated tablets.

Key Features

  • Diclofenac Prolonged Release (Sustained Release) Tablets IP 100 mg, film-coated
  • One tablet a day in place of two or three immediate-release doses
  • A flatter concentration curve, which reduces peak-driven stomach irritation
  • Must be swallowed whole – breaking it defeats the sustained-release matrix
  • Strip of 15 tablets. The original Voveran brand, marketed by Dr Reddy’s Laboratories

Composition

  • Diclofenac Sodium IP – 100 mg (in a prolonged-release form)
  • Film-coated tablets. Excipients q.s. As printed on the carton

Uses & Benefits

  • Relieves the persistent pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
  • Used in ankylosing spondylitis and other inflammatory joint disease
  • Relieves back pain, muscular pain and pain after injury, as prescribed
  • A single daily tablet covers a full day of background pain
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling, not just the sensation of pain
  • Useful where short-acting painkillers wear off before the next dose is due

Directions for Use

  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Never break, chew or crush it – that releases the whole 100 mg at once
  • Take it with or immediately after food to reduce the risk of stomach irritation
  • Usually one tablet daily, at the same time each day, or exactly as prescribed
  • Take it for the shortest period that controls your symptoms
  • If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next is nearly due. Never double up

Precautions

  • NSAIDs carry a cardiovascular warning. Diclofenac in particular is associated with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke, especially at high doses and with long use. Tell your doctor about any heart disease, previous stroke, high blood pressure or high cholesterol
  • It can cause stomach bleeding and ulcers without warning. The risk is higher in older people, with alcohol, with steroids or blood thinners, and with a past ulcer. Stop and seek help for black stools, vomiting blood or severe stomach pain
  • Do not use it if you have active peptic ulcer disease, severe heart failure, or if aspirin or another NSAID has ever caused asthma, hives or an allergic reaction
  • Not to be used in the last three months of pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Tell your doctor about kidney or liver disease, asthma, or if you take blood pressure medicines, diuretics, lithium, methotrexate or warfarin
  • Your doctor may check kidney function, liver enzymes and blood pressure during long-term use

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light
  • Keep the tablets in the strip until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
