Vomiford 8 MD Tablet – Ondansetron 8 mg Orally Disintegrating by Leeford

Vomiford 8 MD Tablet from Leeford Healthcare contains Ondansetron IP 8 mg as an uncoated orally disintegrating tablet. Two things set it apart from a standard anti-emetic tablet. First the strength: 8 mg is double the common 4 mg dose, reserved for highly emetogenic chemotherapy where the lower strength cannot hold the nausea back. Second the format: the tablet disintegrates on the tongue within seconds, so it can be taken by someone who is already retching and cannot keep water down – the dose is absorbed before it can be vomited back. Ondansetron works by blocking 5-HT3 receptors, cutting off the serotonin signal that damaged gut cells send to the brain’s vomiting centre. Strip of 10 tablets. Prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Ondansetron IP 8 mg – the higher strength, as printed on the pack
  • Orally disintegrating (MD) – dissolves on the tongue, no water required
  • For highly emetogenic chemotherapy where 4 mg is not enough
  • Selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist – non-sedating
  • Strip of 10 orally disintegrating tablets from Leeford Healthcare Ltd.

Composition

  • Ondansetron IP – 8 mg per orally disintegrating tablet
  • Excipients – q.s.

Composition as printed on the pack. Refer to the package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
  • Controls nausea and vomiting caused by radiotherapy
  • Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
  • Helps you keep down food and fluids during treatment
  • Reduces the dehydration that persistent vomiting causes
  • Dissolves in the mouth, so a dose is not lost to a vomiting episode

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor
  • Do not push the tablet through the foil – peel the backing off, as orally disintegrating tablets are fragile and crumble
  • Place it on the tongue and let it dissolve – no water needed
  • Handle with dry hands and take it immediately once removed from the blister
  • For chemotherapy, take the dose before treatment begins as directed – prevention works far better than rescue

Precautions

  • Ondansetron can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation). Tell your doctor about any heart rhythm disorder, heart failure, or low potassium or magnesium, and about other medicines that affect rhythm
  • Constipation and headache are the commonest side effects – 5-HT3 blockers slow the bowel. Keep fluids up
  • Not for use in intestinal obstruction, and it does not treat motion sickness – ondansetron works on the chemical trigger, not the inner ear
  • Use with caution in liver disease; the dose is usually capped
  • Discuss pregnancy with your doctor before use – it is prescribed in pregnancy sickness only when the benefit is judged to outweigh the risk
  • Seek urgent care for chest pain, fainting, an irregular heartbeat, or rash and swelling of the face or throat

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until the moment you take one
  • Keep out of reach of children
