Telista 40 Tablet – Telmisartan 40 mg by Lupin

Telista 40 from Lupin contains Telmisartan IP 40 mg in an uncoated tablet. Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker, and it has one property that sets it apart from the rest of its class: an exceptionally long half-life of around 24 hours – the longest of any ARB. That matters more than it sounds. Blood pressure is at its most dangerous in the early morning hours, when it surges on waking, and a drug that has faded overnight leaves that window unprotected. Telmisartan is still working at the end of the dosing interval, which is why it is often chosen for genuine 24-hour cover from a single daily tablet. It works by blocking the receptor that angiotensin II must dock with to constrict a blood vessel, so vessels stay relaxed and pressure falls. Strip of 15 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Telmisartan IP 40 mg uncoated tablet
  • The longest-acting ARB – around a 24-hour half-life, for genuine all-day cover
  • Protects the early-morning window when blood pressure surges
  • No dry cough, unlike ACE inhibitors
  • Strip of 15 tablets from Lupin Ltd.

Composition

  • Telmisartan IP – 40 mg per uncoated tablet
  • Excipients – q.s

Uses & Benefits

  • Lowers high blood pressure with true 24-hour coverage from one daily dose
  • Maintains control through the early-morning blood pressure surge
  • Reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack, and heart failure over time
  • Protects the kidneys in diabetes with kidney involvement
  • Free of the dry cough that limits ACE inhibitors
  • Taken once daily, with or without food

Directions for Use

  • Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; may be taken with or without food
  • Keep taking it even when you feel well – high blood pressure usually has no symptoms
  • Do not take potassium supplements or potassium-based salt substitutes unless your doctor says so
  • Do not stop or change the dose on your own; blood pressure rebounds when treatment stops

Precautions

  • Not for use in pregnancy. The pack states it explicitly – Telista 40 should be discontinued as soon as pregnancy is discovered and the treating physician consulted immediately, because ARBs harm the developing baby
  • Seek emergency care for swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, although this is rarer than with ACE inhibitors
  • Blood tests for kidney function and potassium are done before and during treatment – potassium can rise
  • Dizziness on standing is common early on, and worse if you are dehydrated or taking diuretics
  • Tell your doctor about kidney disease, renal artery narrowing, liver disease, or if you take NSAIDs or lithium
  • Do not combine with an ACE inhibitor or aliskiren unless a specialist directs it

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
