Tasika 750 mg Tablet SR – Bilayer Tranexamic Acid by Lupin

Tasika from Lupin is an uncoated bilayer tablet of tranexamic acid 750 mg, split as 635 mg sustained release plus 115 mg immediate release. Tranexamic acid has a short half-life – roughly two hours – which is why the plain 500 mg tablet has to be taken three times a day. A sustained release format cuts that frequency, and the small immediate-release layer covers the gap at the start, when a slow-release tablet alone would still be building up. For someone taking a medicine only for the two or three heaviest days of a period, fewer doses in a day is not a trivial convenience: it is the difference between a schedule that gets followed and one that does not. The drug itself blocks plasminogen from binding to fibrin, so clots in the uterine lining last long enough to do their job. Strip of 10 tablets.

Key Features

  • Uncoated bilayer tablet: 635 mg SR + 115 mg immediate release
  • Fewer doses a day than plain tranexamic acid 500 mg
  • Non-hormonal control of heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Colour: iron oxide yellow. Manufactured by Lupin Ltd.
  • Strip of 10 tablets

Composition

  • Tranexamic Acid IP – 635 mg (in sustained release form)
  • Tranexamic Acid IP – 115 mg (in immediate release form)
  • Colour: Iron Oxide Yellow. Excipients q.s. As printed on the strip

Uses & Benefits

  • Reduces the volume of blood lost in heavy menstrual periods
  • Taken only on the heavy days, not every day of the month
  • Non-hormonal – it does not affect the cycle, ovulation or fertility
  • Also prescribed for nosebleeds, dental extraction bleeding and other bleeding problems
  • Works within the first cycle, so the effect is easy to judge
  • Fits alongside iron replacement where periods have caused anaemia

Directions for Use

  • Swallow whole with water – do not crush or chew, as the bilayer must stay intact
  • Dosage as directed by the physician, usually only on the days of heavy flow
  • May be taken with or without food
  • Do not extend the course beyond what your doctor prescribes
  • Drink plenty of fluids while on it

Precautions

  • Tell your doctor at once if you have ever had a blood clot in the leg or lung, a stroke or a heart attack. Tranexamic acid slows clot breakdown, so it is not given where a clot has occurred or is likely
  • It should not be taken with combined hormonal contraceptives without specialist advice – both raise clotting risk
  • Not for people with active intravascular clotting, colour vision defects, or bleeding from the kidney or urinary tract, where a clot could block the outflow
  • The dose is reduced in kidney impairment. Tell your doctor about kidney disease, seizures, or a history of subarachnoid haemorrhage
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea are the usual side effects and settle with food. Report any calf pain or swelling, chest pain, breathlessness, sudden severe headache or a change in vision immediately
  • Heavy bleeding needs a diagnosis. This controls the symptom – fibroids, polyps, thyroid problems and clotting disorders still need investigating

Storage

  • Store in a dry, well-ventilated place at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, as printed on the strip
  • Keep the tablets sealed in the blister
  • Keep out of reach of children
