Syndopa CR 125 Tablet – Levodopa 100 mg + Carbidopa 25 mg Prolonged Release by Sun Pharma

Syndopa CR 125 from Sun Pharma contains Levodopa IP 100 mg with Carbidopa IP equivalent to Carbidopa (Anhydrous) 25 mg in an uncoated prolonged release tablet. The CR is what separates it from ordinary Syndopa Plus. Levodopa has a short life in the body, so as Parkinson’s advances the effect of each plain tablet can fade before the next dose is due – the “wearing-off” that patients describe as good hours and bad hours. A prolonged release tablet feeds levodopa out slowly instead of all at once, holding the level steadier between doses and often smoothing that pattern. It is also commonly used at night, where a slow-release dose can carry someone through until morning. Strip of 10 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Levodopa IP 100 mg + Carbidopa (Anhydrous) 25 mg per prolonged release tablet
  • Prolonged release – steadier levels, less wearing-off between doses
  • Often used for the night-time dose
  • Must be swallowed whole, never chewed or crushed
  • Strip of 10 tablets from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.

Composition

  • Levodopa IP – 100 mg
  • Carbidopa IP equivalent to Carbidopa (Anhydrous) – 25 mg
  • Colour – Brilliant Blue FCF. Per uncoated prolonged release tablet

Composition as printed on the pack. Refer to the package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Reduces the tremor, stiffness and slowness of Parkinson’s disease
  • Restores dopamine the brain can no longer make in sufficient amounts
  • Carbidopa lets far more levodopa reach the brain, so a smaller dose works
  • Markedly reduces the nausea plain levodopa causes
  • Improves the ability to walk, write, dress and manage daily tasks
  • The most effective symptomatic treatment available for Parkinson’s disease

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed – the dose and timing are worked out individually and adjusted over time
  • Take it at the same times every day. With this medicine timing matters more than with almost any other; a late dose can mean symptoms return
  • Swallow the tablet whole. Never chew, crush or split it – breaking a prolonged release tablet releases the entire dose at once
  • Avoid taking it with a high-protein meal – dietary protein competes with levodopa for absorption and can blunt the dose
  • If nausea troubles you, a light non-protein snack with the dose can help. Ask your doctor first
  • Never stop suddenly. Abrupt withdrawal can cause a dangerous reaction with fever and muscle rigidity

Precautions

  • Do not stop this medicine abruptly – sudden withdrawal can trigger a severe reaction with high fever and muscle stiffness needing emergency care
  • Dizziness on standing is common, particularly early on. Rise slowly from sitting or lying
  • Sudden sleep attacks can occur without warning drowsiness – do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this affects you
  • Involuntary writhing movements (dyskinesia) may develop after long use, and each dose may start wearing off early. Report both – the regimen can be adjusted
  • Impulse control problems (gambling, compulsive shopping, eating or sexual urges) have been reported. Tell your doctor or family if behaviour changes
  • Urine, sweat or saliva may darken. This is harmless
  • Tell your doctor about glaucoma, heart disease, ulcers, kidney or liver disease, or a history of melanoma; do not take with MAO inhibitors

Storage

  • Store at room temperature, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
