Nexpro Junior from Torrent Pharmaceuticals is Esomeprazole Delayed Release Granules for Oral Suspension in a 1 g sachet, in a tangy orange flavour, and the carton states plainly: for paediatric use only. It exists because a proton pump inhibitor cannot simply be crushed for a child. The drug is destroyed within minutes by stomach acid, so it is always supplied as enteric-coated particles – crush the tablet and you destroy the dose. This product keeps the coating intact on microscopic granules that are stirred into water and swallowed as a suspension, so a child too young for tablets gets a properly protected dose. The technique matters: empty the sachet into a tablespoon (15 ml) of water, stir, leave one to two minutes to thicken, stir again and drink within 30 minutes. If anything is left in the glass, add water, stir and drink at once – that residue is medicine. 1 g sachet.

Directions for Use

• Empty the contents of one sachet into a container holding one tablespoon (15 ml) of water
• Stir, then leave for one to two minutes to thicken. Stir again and drink within 30 minutes
• If any material remains after drinking, add more water, stir and drink immediately – the residue is part of the dose
• Give it 30 to 60 minutes before a meal, or exactly as your doctor directs
• Prepare each dose fresh. Do not make the suspension in advance

Precautions

• This is a paediatric preparation and the dose is set by weight. Do not give it without a doctor’s prescription and dose instruction
• Never mix it into a thick or hot drink, and do not chew the granules – that breaks the coating and destroys the dose
• Tell your doctor if a child has persistent vomiting, is not gaining weight, or has difficulty swallowing
• Long-term acid suppression in children needs review; use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time
• Tell your doctor about liver disease and every other medicine the child takes
• Do not stop a long course abruptly without your doctor’s advice
