Lotel LS Gel
Lotel LS Gel is a high-potency ophthalmic intervention containing Loteprednol Etabonate (0.2% w/v), a specialized “Site-Specific” corticosteroid specifically engineered for the clinical management of post-operative ocular inflammation and seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. Utilizing a unique “Soft-Steroid” delivery system, this gel works by penetrating the cell membranes to activate glucocorticoid receptors, which subsequently inhibits the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. By modulating the vascular permeability and suppressing the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, Lotel LS effectively reduces ocular swelling and redness. This targeted biochemical action provides a decisive therapeutic response by mitigating the discomfort of the ocular surface with a significantly lower risk of elevating intraocular pressure compared to traditional steroids.
Key Features
- Specifically formulated to provide maximum anti-inflammatory effect at the target tissue while minimizing systemic exposure.
- Clinically recognized for its reduced potential to cause “steroid-induced” cataracts or significant increases in eye pressure (IOP).
- The gel-based matrix is specifically engineered to adhere to the cornea longer than standard aqueous drops, improving efficacy.
- Acts as a functional intervention to quickly reduce ocular itching, burning, and discharge caused by inflammation.
- Specifically engineered to be deactivated by local esterases, preventing long-term accumulation in ocular tissues.
Key Ingredients
- Loteprednol Etabonate (0.2%)
- Benzalkonium Chloride
- Edetate Disodium
- Glycerin
- Carbomer 974P
Precautions
- Use only under the direct supervision of an ophthalmologist; regular monitoring of intraocular pressure (IOP) is required for prolonged use.
- Steroids can mask or worsen fungal, viral, or bacterial infections; do not use in the presence of active ocular herpes or mycobacterial infections.
- Remove contact lenses prior to application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting to prevent the absorption of preservatives.
- Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eyelashes or eyelids, to maintain the sterile nature of the gel.
- Long-term use (exceeding 10 days) may lead to secondary infections or delayed wound healing; follow the prescribed duration strictly.
- A transient blurring of vision may occur immediately after application due to the gel’s viscosity; wait for clarity before driving.
How to Use
- Wash your hands thoroughly. Shake the bottle vigorously to ensure the gel suspension is uniform before each use.
- Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a pocket, and instill one drop of the gel into the conjunctival sac.
- Close the eye gently and apply light pressure to the inner corner (tear duct) for 1–2 minutes to ensure localized absorption.
- Typically applied four times daily for post-operative care, or as directed by your specialist based on the severity of inflammation.
- If using other ophthalmic products, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between the application of each medication.
- Keep the bottle in an upright position, tightly closed, in a cool and dry place (below 25°C). Do not freeze.
