Celebrex 100 mg from Pfizer contains Celecoxib 100 mg, manufactured in Germany by R-Pharm and imported by Pfizer Limited. Celecoxib is a selective COX-2 inhibitor, and the selectivity is the whole idea. Ordinary NSAIDs block two enzymes: COX-2, which produces the prostaglandins of pain and inflammation, and COX-1, which produces the prostaglandins that protect the stomach lining. Blocking both relieves arthritis but erodes the stomach. Celecoxib targets COX-2 and largely spares COX-1, which is why it causes significantly fewer stomach ulcers than traditional NSAIDs – the reason it is chosen for the long courses that arthritis demands. Directions for Use

• Take exactly as prescribed, usually once or twice daily
• Swallow the capsule whole with water; taking it with food reduces stomach upset
• Use the lowest dose that controls your symptoms, for the shortest period needed
• Do not combine it with other NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or diclofenac
• Tell your doctor if pain is not controlled rather than increasing the dose yourself

Precautions

• Sparing the stomach does not remove the risk entirely – ulcers and bleeding can still occur. Report black stools, vomiting blood or persistent stomach pain
• COX-2 inhibitors raise the risk of heart attack and stroke, particularly at higher doses and longer courses. Not for use in established heart disease, stroke or peripheral arterial disease
• Do not take it if you are allergic to sulphonamides – celecoxib is a sulphonamide
• Not for use after coronary artery bypass surgery, or in the last trimester of pregnancy
• Report any rash promptly – serious skin reactions are rare but occur early in treatment
• Kidney function and blood pressure should be monitored, especially in older patients or alongside ACE inhibitors and diuretics

• Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
• Keep capsules in the original blister until use
