Bengel AC 2.5% Gel is a topical acne treatment from Hegde and Hegde Pharmaceutica LLP, India, supplied in a 30 g tube. Each gram contains benzoyl peroxide 2.5% w/w in a clear gel base.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the best-known medicines for acne vulgaris. It releases oxygen on the skin, which is harmful to the bacteria that take part in acne, and it also helps loosen dead skin so that pores are less likely to clog.

The 2.5% strength is a lower concentration, chosen when a gentler start is wanted, especially for sensitive skin or for people who are new to benzoyl peroxide. It is applied only to the affected areas and works over several weeks.

Some dryness, redness or peeling is common at first. Avoid the eyes, mouth and broken skin, and keep the gel away from coloured fabrics, hair and towels because benzoyl peroxide can bleach them. Use a sunscreen outdoors and follow your doctor advice on how long to continue.

How to Use

• Wash the area with a mild cleanser and pat it dry.
