Benzac AC 2.5% Gel is a topical acne treatment marketed by Galderma India Pvt Ltd. It contains hydrous benzoyl peroxide equivalent to 2.5% w/w anhydrous benzoyl peroxide in an aqueous gel base with glycerol. It is used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris, including pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. Benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria that inflame blocked pores and cause red, painful spots. It also helps shed dead skin cells and excess oil so pores stay clear. The 2.5% strength is often chosen as a starting point, since it works well with less dryness and peeling than stronger gels. The water-based gel spreads easily and does not leave a greasy layer. Many users see fewer breakouts after four to six weeks of regular use. The skin may become more sensitive to sunlight, so daily sunscreen is advised. It can bleach hair and fabrics, so let it dry before touching clothes or pillows.
