Xmet 250 Tablet – Metformin 250 mg by Glenmark

Xmet 250 Tablet from Glenmark Pharmaceuticals contains Metformin Hydrochloride 250 mg, the first-line oral medicine for type 2 diabetes. Metformin works in three ways at once: it reduces the amount of glucose the liver releases, improves how well muscle and fat tissue respond to insulin, and slows glucose absorption from the gut. Unlike many diabetes drugs it does not push the pancreas to make more insulin, so used on its own it rarely causes hypoglycaemia and does not lead to weight gain. The 250 mg strength is the gentlest starting dose, useful for building tolerance before stepping up. Strip of 15 tablets.

Directions for Use

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor – the dose is built up gradually
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush or break it
• Take with or just after food to reduce stomach upset, usually two or three times daily
• Keep taking it alongside diet and exercise even when your sugar readings look normal
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next is near – never double up

Precautions

• Lactic acidosis is a rare but serious risk. Seek urgent medical care for unusual muscle pain, severe tiredness, breathlessness, stomach pain with vomiting, or feeling cold and faint
• Stop before scans using contrast dye and before surgery – tell the radiologist or surgeon you take metformin
• Not for use in significant kidney impairment; your doctor will check kidney function before and during treatment
• Common early side effects are nausea, metallic taste, bloating, loose stools and appetite loss – these usually settle within a few weeks
• Avoid alcohol, which raises the risk of lactic acidosis; long-term use can lower vitamin B12, so levels may be checked periodically
• Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or become seriously ill or dehydrated

• Protect from light and moisture; keep tablets in the original blister
