Vizylac from Torrent Pharmaceuticals is a probiotic capsule of Lactic Acid Bacillus, not less than 120 million spores (120 × 10⁶) per hard gelatin capsule. It is marketed on the carton as India’s No. 1 doctor-prescribed probiotic, and its most common real-world use is exactly the one doctors reach for it: given alongside a course of antibiotics. Antibiotics do not distinguish between the bacteria causing an infection and the beneficial bacteria that normally live in the gut, so a course often leaves the intestinal flora depleted – the reason antibiotics so often cause diarrhoea.
