Viraday Tablet

Viraday from Cipla is a complete once-a-day HIV-1 treatment in a single tablet. It combines three antiretrovirals that block the same viral enzyme in two different ways: efavirenz, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), plus emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, which are nucleoside/nucleotide inhibitors. Hitting reverse transcriptase from more than one angle keeps viral load suppressed and makes resistance far harder to develop. One tablet replaces three separate medicines – the single biggest reason people stay on treatment long term. Bottle of 30 film-coated tablets.

Key Features

  • Complete single-tablet regimen – one tablet daily covers the full combination.
  • An NNRTI plus two NRTIs gives a high genetic barrier to resistance.
  • Fewer pills means fewer missed doses, which is what keeps viral load undetectable.
  • Bottle packed with a desiccant, so tablets stay dry all month.
  • From Cipla, made at their Goa facility; bottle of 30 tablets.

Composition / Key Ingredients

Each film-coated tablet contains:

  • Efavirenz IP – 600 mg
  • Emtricitabine IP – 200 mg
  • Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate IP – 300 mg
  • Colours – Red Oxide of Iron, Yellow Oxide of Iron & Titanium Dioxide IP

Please refer to the pack label for the complete list of ingredients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Treats HIV-1 infection in adults as a complete antiretroviral regimen.
  • Lowers virus in the blood, often to undetectable levels.
  • Helps the CD4 cell count recover, rebuilding immune defence.
  • Reduces the risk of opportunistic infections and AIDS-related illness.
  • Simplifies treatment from three medicines down to one.
  • Sustained suppression also lowers the risk of passing HIV to a partner.

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as your doctor directs – the pack states dosage is by physician’s direction.
  • Take on an empty stomach, at bedtime. Food raises efavirenz levels and worsens side effects; taking it at night means you sleep through the dizziness.
  • Swallow whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
  • Same time every day, never skip a dose – missed doses are how resistance develops.
  • Keep taking it even when you feel completely well; do not stop without your doctor’s instruction.

Precautions

  • Schedule H prescription drug. The pack states: “Not to be sold by retail without the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner.”
  • Hepatitis B warning. If you also have hepatitis B, stopping this medicine can trigger a severe liver flare. Liver function must be monitored for months after any change.
  • Not a cure, and it does not stop HIV spreading. Continue safer-sex precautions and never share needles.
  • Dizziness, vivid dreams, poor sleep and trouble concentrating are common early on and usually settle. Report mood changes, depression or thoughts of self-harm at once.
  • Tenofovir can affect the kidneys and bone density – expect regular creatinine and phosphate tests.
  • Tell your doctor about every other medicine, and about pregnancy or plans to conceive. Efavirenz weakens hormonal contraceptives, so add a barrier method.

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed with the desiccant sachet inside – do not discard it.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
