Veltam 0.2 mg Tablet MR – Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 0.2 mg by Intas

Veltam 0.2 from Intas Pharmaceuticals contains Tamsulosin Hydrochloride IP 0.2 mg in a film-coated modified release tablet. The dose is what makes this one notable: 0.2 mg is half the usual 0.4 mg strength, and it exists for a specific reason. Tamsulosin relaxes the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck to open a narrowed urinary outlet, but the same relaxation in blood vessels can cause dizziness or fainting – and older, slighter, or blood-pressure-sensitive patients feel that most. Starting at 0.2 mg lets a doctor establish tolerance before stepping up, and for some men the lower dose controls symptoms adequately on its own. Strip of 10 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Tamsulosin Hydrochloride IP 0.2 mg – half the usual strength
  • Modified release film-coated tablet, once daily
  • A gentler starting dose for patients sensitive to dizziness
  • Selective alpha-1A blocker for benign prostatic hyperplasia
  • Strip of 10 tablets from Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Composition

  • Tamsulosin Hydrochloride IP – 0.2 mg per film-coated modified release tablet
  • Colours – Lake of Quinoline Yellow WS and Titanium Dioxide IP

Composition as printed on the pack. Refer to the package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Eases a weak or interrupted urine stream and straining to start
  • Reduces urgent and frequent urination, including at night
  • A lower starting dose, so less likely to cause dizziness than 0.4 mg
  • Helps empty the bladder more completely
  • Selective for urinary alpha-1A receptors, sparing blood pressure
  • Once-daily modified release tablet

Directions for Use

  • Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew or break it – that destroys the modified release
  • Take it about half an hour after the same meal each day
  • Stand up slowly for the first few days, when dizziness is most likely
  • Keep taking it once symptoms settle; stopping lets them return

Precautions

  • Dizziness or fainting can occur, especially with the first doses or a dose increase. Rise slowly and do not drive until you know how it affects you
  • Tell your eye surgeon you take tamsulosin before cataract or glaucoma surgery, even if you stopped it long ago – it causes floppy iris syndrome and the surgeon must plan for it
  • Tamsulosin relaxes muscle; it does not shrink the prostate. Your doctor decides whether you also need a prostate-shrinking medicine
  • Prostate cancer can cause the same symptoms – your doctor should rule it out before you start
  • Abnormal ejaculation, including reduced or absent semen, is common and harmless
  • Tell your doctor about severe kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, and all other medicines – especially other alpha blockers, erectile dysfunction drugs, ketoconazole or ritonavir

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
