Velpaclear Tablet – Sofosbuvir 400 mg + Velpatasvir 100 mg by Abbott

Velpaclear Tablet is Abbott India’s Sofosbuvir 400 mg and Velpatasvir 100 mg combination for chronic hepatitis C, manufactured by Hetero Labs at Baddi under licence from Gilead Sciences Ireland. Sofosbuvir shuts down the NS5B polymerase that copies viral RNA, while velpatasvir blocks the NS5A protein needed to assemble new virus. The combination is pangenotypic – it works across all six HCV genotypes – so treatment can begin without genotype testing. Supplied as 1 x 28 tablets, four weeks of a typical 12-week course.

Uses & Benefits

Directions for Use

• Take exactly as prescribed – usually one tablet once daily for 12 weeks
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush or break it
• May be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time every day
• Complete the full course even when you feel well – stopping early risks relapse and resistance
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next is near; never double up

Precautions

• You must be tested for hepatitis B before starting. HBV can reactivate during HCV treatment and cause serious, sometimes fatal, liver injury – your doctor will screen and monitor for this
• Do not take with amiodarone – the combination can cause severe, potentially fatal slowing of the heart
• Tell your doctor about all other medicines, especially rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, St John’s Wort, certain HIV medicines and antacids, which can make this treatment fail
• Common side effects include headache, tiredness, nausea, diarrhoea, insomnia and anaemia
• Use with caution in severe kidney disease; liver function is monitored throughout treatment
• Avoid alcohol; it may cause dizziness or blurred vision, so do not drive until you know how it affects you

Storage

• Store below 30°C in a dry place
• Keep in the original bottle with the cap tightly closed; protect from light and moisture
• Keep out of reach of children
