Urimax D Tablet MR – Tamsulosin 0.4 mg + Dutasteride 0.5 mg by Cipla
Urimax D from Cipla combines Tamsulosin Hydrochloride IP 0.4 mg (as modified release) with Dutasteride IP 0.5 mg in one film-coated tablet, and the pairing is a deliberate answer to how benign prostatic hyperplasia actually behaves. An enlarged prostate obstructs urine in two separate ways. Part is muscle tone – smooth muscle clamped tight around the urethra, which tamsulosin releases within days. Part is bulk – the gland physically pressing on the channel, which no muscle relaxant can touch. Dutasteride blocks both forms of the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, the hormone driving prostate growth, so over three to six months the gland genuinely shrinks. Together they give fast relief and lasting reduction: fewer episodes of acute retention, and a lower chance of needing surgery. Strip of 15 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine, for men only.

Uses & Benefits
- Relieves the urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate faster than dutasteride alone
- Shrinks the prostate over months, addressing the cause rather than only the symptoms
- Reduces the risk of acute urinary retention and of needing prostate surgery
- Improves stream, urgency and night-time urination
- Two medicines in one tablet, simplifying long-term treatment
- Once-daily dosing
Directions for Use
- Take one tablet once daily, exactly as prescribed – usually about half an hour after the same meal each day
- Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew or break it
- Keep taking it. The tamsulosin works within days, but the dutasteride needs three to six months to shrink the prostate – stopping early loses that benefit
- Stand up slowly for the first few days, when dizziness is most likely
- Do not stop or change the dose without your doctor’s advice
Precautions
- Women who are or may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken tablets. The pack carries this warning explicitly: dutasteride is absorbed through the skin and could harm a developing male foetus. Keep the blister intact and never split these tablets
- Do not donate blood for at least six months after your last dose – dutasteride stays in the blood a long time, and donated blood could reach a pregnant recipient
- Dizziness or fainting can occur, especially with the first doses. Get up slowly and do not drive until you know how it affects you
- Tell your eye surgeon you take tamsulosin before cataract or glaucoma surgery, even if you stopped it long ago – it causes floppy iris syndrome and the surgeon must plan for it
- Dutasteride roughly halves PSA readings. Any doctor checking your prostate must know you take it, or the result will be misread
- Expect effects on sexual function – reduced libido, erectile difficulty, and reduced or absent semen are common. Breast tenderness or enlargement should be reported
- Prostate cancer causes the same symptoms – your doctor should rule it out before you start. Tell your doctor about liver disease and all other medicines, especially other alpha blockers, erectile dysfunction drugs, ketoconazole or ritonavir
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place, as printed on the pack
- Keep tablets in the original blister until use – do not decant them
- Keep out of reach of children
