Pramipex 0.125 mg Tablet – Pramipexole Dihydrochloride 0.125 mg by Sun Pharma

Pramipex 0.125 from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries contains Pramipexole Dihydrochloride 0.125 mg – the starting strength. Pramipexole is a dopamine agonist: it does not replace dopamine but activates the receptors dopamine would have reached, standing in for the missing signal. The reason this smallest tablet exists is that the drug cannot simply be started at a working dose. Begun too high, it causes nausea, dizziness, and daytime sleepiness, so treatment starts at 0.125 mg three times daily and climbs in steps over weeks until symptoms are controlled. This strength is also the usual dose for restless legs syndrome, where far less is needed than in Parkinson’s. Strip of 10 tablets. Prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Pramipexole Dihydrochloride 0.125 mg – the starting and titration strength
  • Dopamine agonist – activates dopamine receptors directly
  • The usual strength for restless legs syndrome
  • Used to build the dose gradually in Parkinson’s disease
  • Strip of 10 tablets from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.

Composition

  • Pramipexole Dihydrochloride – 0.125 mg per tablet

Uses & Benefits

  • Relieves the urge to move and night-time leg discomfort of restless legs syndrome
  • Allows pramipexole to be started gently and built up safely
  • Reduces tremor, stiffness and slowness in Parkinson’s disease
  • Works directly on dopamine receptors, independent of remaining dopamine cells
  • May allow levodopa to be delayed or its dose reduced
  • Small tablet, easy to combine into a stepped dose

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed – in Parkinson’s the dose is raised in steps over several weeks
  • For restless legs syndrome it is usually taken two to three hours before bedtime
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; taking it with food reduces nausea
  • Never stop suddenly. Pramipexole must be tapered by your doctor
  • If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next as scheduled. Do not double up

Precautions

  • Sudden sleep attacks can occur without any warning drowsiness. Do not drive or operate machinery until you are certain how this medicine affects you
  • Impulse control disorders are a recognised effect – compulsive gambling, shopping, eating or sexual urges. Ask a family member to watch for behaviour changes and report them
  • In restless legs syndrome, symptoms occasionally start earlier in the day or spread to the arms over months (augmentation). Report this – it means the treatment needs changing, not more of it
  • Dizziness or fainting on standing is common while the dose is being increased. Rise slowly
  • Hallucinations and confusion can occur, especially in older patients
  • The dose is reduced in kidney impairment – tell your doctor about kidney disease

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
