Pednisol 5 mg Tablet – Prednisolone 5 mg by Ochoa Laboratories
Pednisol 5 mg from Ochoa Laboratories contains Prednisolone 5 mg, the corticosteroid that has been the workhorse of oral steroid therapy for over sixty years. Its position rests on a balance rather than on being the strongest of anything. It is about four times as potent as hydrocortisone but has considerably less mineralocorticoid activity, so it suppresses inflammation without causing the salt and water retention that limits hydrocortisone. Its half-life is intermediate – long enough for once-daily dosing, short enough that alternate-day regimens are possible, which is how the adrenal glands are spared during long courses. That is exactly what dexamethasone, with its much longer action, cannot do. Prednisolone is used across asthma, allergy, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, skin conditions and many others. The 5 mg tablet is the standard building block from which almost any dose is assembled. Strip of 10 tablets.

Uses & Benefits
- Controls inflammation in asthma, severe allergy and allergic reactions
- Used in rheumatoid arthritis and other rheumatological conditions
- Prescribed in inflammatory bowel disease and inflammatory skin conditions
- Used in adrenal insufficiency as replacement therapy where prescribed
- The 5 mg strength allows a dose to be built up or tapered down precisely
- Suits alternate-day regimens better than longer-acting steroids
Directions for Use
- Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. Dose and duration vary widely by condition
- Swallow with or straight after food, usually as a single morning dose, which matches the body’s own cortisol rhythm and reduces stomach irritation
- Never stop it suddenly after more than about two weeks – the dose must be tapered so the adrenal glands can recover
- Do not double a missed dose. Ask your doctor what to do if you miss one
- Carry a steroid card if you are on it long term, and tell any doctor or dentist treating you
Precautions
- Never stop long-term steroid treatment abruptly. Sudden withdrawal can cause an adrenal crisis, which is life-threatening
- Steroids mask infection. Report fever, cough or a wound that is not healing, and avoid contact with chickenpox or measles if you have not had them
- Tell your doctor about diabetes (blood sugar will rise), high blood pressure, glaucoma, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, tuberculosis, epilepsy, mental illness or pregnancy
- Long courses cause weight gain and moon face, thinning skin, easy bruising, muscle weakness, mood change and bone loss. Your doctor uses the lowest effective dose
- Avoid live vaccines while on significant doses
- Report black or tarry stools, severe stomach pain, visual disturbance or marked mood change
Storage
- Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light
- Keep the tablets in the blister until use
- Keep out of reach of children
