Otrivin Oxy Fast Relief from GSK contains Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride I.P. 0.05% w/v, a topical decongestant that acts directly on the blood vessels lining the nose. Congestion is not really mucus – it is swollen, engorged tissue narrowing the airway. Oxymetazoline constricts those vessels so the swelling subsides and the passage opens, which is why it works within about 25 seconds and keeps the nose clear for up to 12 hours. For adults and children aged 12 and over. 10 ml metered spray bottle.

Composition

Directions for Use

• Blow your nose before using the spray
• Spray 1–2 times into each nostril, up to twice a day
• Spray while gently breathing in through the nose
• Leave at least 8 hours between doses; do not exceed 2 applications daily
• Wipe the nozzle after use and replace the cap; do not share the bottle

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 10 consecutive days. Longer use causes rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa), where the nose blocks worse each time the spray wears off
• Not for children under 12 years – use the paediatric formulation instead
• Use with caution if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disorder or an enlarged prostate – decongestants can raise blood pressure
• Do not use with MAOI antidepressants, or within two weeks of stopping them
• Mild nasal irritation, dryness, stinging or sneezing can occur and is usually brief
• For external use only. Consult a doctor if congestion persists beyond a week

• Store below 25°C in a dry place
• Keep the container tightly closed; protect from direct sunlight
