Lantus 100IU/ml Solution for Injection is a prescription long-acting insulin from Sanofi used to improve blood sugar control in adults and children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. Each ml contains Insulin Glargine 100 IU, and each cartridge holds 3 ml (300 units) of clear, colourless solution. The cartridge is designed for use with a compatible reusable insulin pen such as AllStar. Given once a day, Lantus provides a steady, peakless background (basal) insulin level for about 24 hours, helping keep glucose stable between meals and overnight. Along with diet, exercise and other diabetes medicines, it lowers the risk of long-term complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart.

How It Works

Insulin Glargine is a man-made form of human insulin produced by recombinant DNA technology. After injection under the skin, it forms tiny deposits that release insulin slowly and evenly into the bloodstream. This insulin helps muscle and fat cells take up glucose from the blood and stops the liver from releasing too much sugar. Because the release is gradual and without a sharp peak, a single daily dose mimics the body’s natural background insulin.

How to Use

• Use exactly the dose prescribed by your doctor, once daily at the same time.
• Inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, rotating sites each time.
• Check that the solution is clear and colourless; do not mix it with any other insulin.
• Never inject into a vein or muscle, and never share your pen or needles.

Safety Advice

• This is a Schedule H prescription medicine; use only under medical supervision.
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) is the most common side effect; watch for sweating, shaking, dizziness or confusion and keep a source of sugar with you.
• Monitor your blood glucose regularly and do not change your dose without medical advice.
• Injection-site redness, swelling or skin thickening may occur; rotating sites helps prevent this.
• Store unopened cartridges in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C and never freeze. Once in use, keep below 30°C for up to 4 weeks, away from heat and light, out of reach of children.
