Folvite Active Capsule from Pfizer is a prescription soft gelatin capsule that delivers three B vitamins in their already-active forms – L-Methyl Folate 1 mg, Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg and Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate 0.5 mg. Ordinary folic acid and pyridoxine must first be converted by the body before they can be used, and people carrying common MTHFR gene variants convert folic acid poorly. Supplying the methylated forms bypasses that step. Together these three vitamins clear homocysteine from the blood, support red blood cell formation and help maintain healthy nerve function. Precautions

• Prescription only. The pack states: “To be sold by retail on the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner only.”
• Undiagnosed B12 deficiency matters – folate can mask pernicious anaemia while nerve damage progresses, so get B12 status checked before long-term use.
• Tell your doctor about epilepsy medicines, methotrexate or sulfasalazine, which interact with folate.
• Contains a gelatin capsule shell and the colour Ponceau 4R, which may not suit everyone.
• Do not exceed the prescribed dose or self-medicate.
• Considered safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding when prescribed, but confirm with your doctor first.
