Duotrol Tablet

Duotrol Tablet is USV Private Limited’s glibenclamide and metformin combination, with Glibenclamide 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg in each uncoated tablet. USV has a long track record in Indian diabetes care, and Duotrol is positioned as an economical dual-therapy option for adults with type 2 diabetes whose sugar levels are not controlled by lifestyle measures and a single medicine. The sulfonylurea component increases insulin output from the pancreas while metformin lowers hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity. Each strip holds 10 tablets.

Key Features

  • Contains Glibenclamide 5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg
  • Economical dual-therapy option for adults with type 2 diabetes
  • One tablet in place of two separate anti-diabetic medicines
  • From USV Private Limited, a long-established Indian diabetes-care company
  • Strip of 10 uncoated tablets, with 30 and 50 tablet packs for repeat courses

Composition

  • Glibenclamide – 5 mg
  • Metformin Hydrochloride – 500 mg

Uses & Benefits

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are not enough
  • Combines two complementary actions in one tablet, reducing the number of pills taken each day
  • Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, lowering blood glucose after meals
  • Metformin lowers glucose production by the liver and improves the body’s response to insulin
  • Helps bring fasting and post-meal sugar readings closer to the target range set by your doctor
  • Better long-term glycaemic control supports protection of the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed, generally one tablet with or right after a meal
  • Swallow whole with water – do not crush, split or chew
  • Do not skip meals after taking a dose, as this raises the risk of low blood sugar
  • If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next is due – never double up
  • Continue routine glucose monitoring and doctor follow-ups

Precautions

  • Prescription-only medicine – take it strictly as directed and never adjust the dose on your own
  • Can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar); carry glucose or sugar and learn the warning signs such as sweating, shakiness, hunger and confusion
  • Nausea, a metallic taste, loose stools, bloating and reduced appetite are the most common effects and usually settle with time
  • Not suitable in significant kidney or liver impairment, severe infection, dehydration or diabetic ketoacidosis because of the risk of lactic acidosis
  • Tell your doctor before any surgery or contrast X-ray scan, and avoid alcohol, which increases both hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk
  • Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise; keep the strip out of reach of children

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place
  • Keep the tablets in the original strip, protected from light and moisture
  • Do not use after the printed expiry date and keep away from children
