Demisone from Cadila Pharmaceuticals is Dexamethasone Tablets IP 0.5 mg. Dexamethasone sits at the potent, long-acting end of the corticosteroid family – roughly 25 to 30 times the anti-inflammatory strength of hydrocortisone milligram for milligram, with a biological effect that lasts well over a day despite a much shorter blood half-life. That mismatch between blood level and effect is deliberate: dexamethasone binds tightly to its receptor and switches off inflammatory gene expression for far longer than it circulates, which is why a single small dose can control inflammation for 36 to 54 hours. The 0.5 mg strength is the standard building block from which most oral dexamethasone regimens are assembled, whether that means half a tablet, several tablets, or a tapering schedule over days to weeks. Directions for Use

• Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably with or after food to reduce stomach upset
• Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes – the dose varies enormously by condition, from a fraction of a tablet to several tablets a day
• Take it at the same time each day, usually in the morning to mirror the body’s natural cortisol rhythm
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next is nearly due. Never double up
• Do not stop it suddenly after more than a short course – your doctor will taper the dose

Precautions

• Never stop a course of dexamethasone abruptly after more than a few days. Sudden withdrawal can cause a dangerous adrenal crisis; the dose must be tapered
• It makes infections harder to fight and can mask their symptoms. Tell your doctor about any fever, sore throat or infection, and avoid contact with chickenpox or measles if you have not had them
• Long-term use raises blood sugar and blood pressure, thins bone, and can cause weight gain, mood changes and cataracts. Your doctor will monitor for these with prolonged treatment
• Tell your doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma, stomach ulcers, tuberculosis, osteoporosis or any mental health condition
• If you are on long-term treatment, your dose usually needs increasing during illness, injury or surgery – ask your doctor for a sick-day plan and carry a steroid card
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and about every other medicine you take

Storage

• Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light
• Keep the tablets in the strip until use
• Keep out of reach of children
