Cytogard Tablet is a prescription anti-anginal medicine marketed by Abbott Healthcare and used to treat angina pectoris, the chest pain or tightness that occurs when the heart muscle does not receive enough oxygen-rich blood. Each film-coated tablet contains Trimetazidine Hydrochloride IP 20 mg. Unlike many heart medicines, it works directly on the heart cells rather than on blood pressure or heart rate, helping them cope better when blood flow is reduced. Taken regularly, it helps lower the number and severity of angina attacks and makes everyday activities more comfortable. Each strip contains 10 tablets.

How It Works

Trimetazidine is a metabolic anti-anginal agent. It shifts the heart’s energy production away from burning fats towards using glucose, which needs less oxygen to produce the same amount of energy. This helps heart muscle cells keep working and stay protected during periods of low oxygen supply. Because it does not significantly lower blood pressure or slow the heart rate, it is often used alongside other angina medicines.

How to Use

• Do not use if you have Parkinson’s disease, tremors, movement disorders or severe kidney disease; tell your doctor about any kidney problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Common side effects include dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, nausea, indigestion and rash. Report any tremor, stiffness or unsteady walking to your doctor.
• Avoid driving if you feel dizzy. Store below 30°C, protected from moisture, out of reach of children.
