Ciptest HIV 1 & 2 Rapid Test Card, marketed by Cipla Ltd, is a rapid immunoassay card for the qualitative detection of antibodies to HIV 1 and HIV 2. It works with human whole blood, serum or plasma and gives a visual result within minutes, making it a practical screening tool for clinics, laboratories, blood centres and counselling programmes. This pack contains 25 individually pouched test cards.

How It Works

Each card is a lateral flow immunoassay. When the sample and assay buffer are applied to the device, any HIV 1 or HIV 2 antibodies present bind to the antigen-coated test line and produce a visible coloured band. A separate control line confirms that the test has run correctly. Because it detects antibodies, a reactive result should always be confirmed with a supplementary laboratory test.

How to Use

• Bring the pouch and sample to room temperature before opening
• Open the pouch only when ready and use the card immediately
• Place the card on a flat surface and apply the sample with the dispenser, then add the assay buffer as directed
• Read the result within the time stated in the instruction leaflet and ignore results read after that window

Safety Advice

• For professional use only and for in-vitro diagnostic use only
• Handle all samples as potentially infectious and wear gloves
• Do not use if the pouch is damaged, the desiccant is spent or the expiry date has passed
• Do not freeze or reuse the card; dispose of used material as biohazard waste
• A reactive result needs confirmation, and a negative result does not rule out very recent infection
