Asthalin 4 mg Tablet – Salbutamol 4 mg by Cipla

Asthalin 4 mg Tablet from Cipla contains Salbutamol Sulphate IP equivalent to Salbutamol 4 mg in an uncoated tablet. Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 agonist: it relaxes the ring of muscle wrapped around the airways, so tubes that have tightened during an asthma or COPD flare open up and air moves freely again. Most people meet salbutamol as a blue inhaler, and for a sudden attack the inhaler is the right tool – it reaches the lungs in seconds. The tablet is a different job. It is swallowed, absorbed and carried to the airways in the bloodstream, which is slower to act but longer-lasting, and it suits patients who cannot manage inhaler technique, young children, or those needing steady background relief on top of their inhaler. Strip of 45 tablets. Schedule H prescription medicine.

Key Features

  • Salbutamol 4 mg (as Salbutamol Sulphate IP) – uncoated tablet
  • Short-acting beta-2 agonist – relaxes tightened airway muscle
  • Oral form for patients who cannot use an inhaler effectively
  • For asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Strip of 45 tablets from Cipla Ltd.

Composition

  • Salbutamol Sulphate IP equivalent to Salbutamol – 4 mg per uncoated tablet

Composition as printed on the pack. Refer to the package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Relieves wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and cough in asthma
  • Eases the airway narrowing of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • An option when inhaler technique is poor, or for young children who cannot coordinate a puff
  • Longer-lasting relief than a single inhaler dose
  • Can be used alongside regular preventer treatment as your doctor directs
  • Well-established medicine with decades of clinical use

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor – the dose differs for adults and children
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush it
  • May be taken with or without food, preferably at the same times each day
  • This tablet is not a rescue medicine. In a sudden attack use your reliever inhaler – the tablet takes far too long to act
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose to chase relief; tell your doctor instead if symptoms are not controlled

Precautions

  • Trembling hands and a fast or pounding heartbeat are the commonest effects – salbutamol stimulates beta receptors in muscle and heart as well as airway. These usually settle
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure or an overactive thyroid, as the dose may need care
  • Diabetes needs closer monitoring – salbutamol can raise blood sugar
  • High doses can lower blood potassium; your doctor may check it if you are also on diuretics or steroids
  • Worsening breathlessness despite treatment is an emergency – seek immediate medical help rather than taking more tablets
  • Tell your doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, and every other medicine you take, especially beta blockers

Storage

  • Store below 25°C and protect from light, as printed on the pack
  • Keep tablets in the original blister until use
  • Keep out of reach of children
