Eglucent Mix 25 Suspension for Injection is a prescription premixed insulin marketed by Lupin Ltd in partnership with Eli Lilly, used to improve blood sugar control in adults and children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Each ml contains 100 IU of Insulin Lispro in a biphasic mix of 25% fast-acting Insulin Lispro and 75% intermediate-acting Insulin Lispro Protamine. This combination controls the rise in sugar after meals and also provides background insulin cover between meals. Each 3 ml cartridge is designed for use with Lilly reusable insulin pens. Good sugar control lowers the risk of serious complications of diabetes such as kidney damage, nerve problems, vision loss and heart disease.

How It Works

Insulin Lispro is a rapid-acting analogue of human insulin that starts working within about 15 minutes, helping muscle, fat and liver cells absorb glucose from the blood after a meal. The protamine-bound portion is released slowly from under the skin, giving a longer, steady effect that controls blood sugar for several hours. Insulin also stops the liver from releasing extra glucose. Together, the two components provide both mealtime and basal cover in a single injection.

How to Use

• Inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, exactly as your doctor or nurse has taught you.
• Inject within 15 minutes before a meal; gently roll the cartridge to mix the suspension until evenly cloudy.
• Rotate injection sites and never inject into a vein.
• Check your blood sugar regularly and do not change your dose or stop without your doctor’s advice.

Safety Advice

• This is a Schedule H prescription medicine; use only under medical supervision.
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) is the most common side effect; watch for sweating, shaking, dizziness or confusion and keep a sugar source handy.
• Other possible effects include injection-site reactions, skin thickening, weight gain and swelling; seek help for rash or breathing difficulty.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Limit alcohol and take care when driving.
• Store unopened cartridges in a refrigerator at 2-8°C; do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
