Toujeo 300U/ml Solution for Injection is a prescription long-acting (basal) insulin from Sanofi used to control blood sugar in adults and children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Each ml contains Insulin Glargine 300 units, three times the concentration of standard glargine, so the same dose is delivered in a smaller volume. It provides a steady, flat level of insulin for a full day and beyond, helping keep blood sugar stable between meals and overnight. Good sugar control lowers the risk of long-term diabetes complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart. Each 1.5 ml cartridge holds 450 units and is designed for use with the TouStar reusable pen. It is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis Deutschland GmbH, Germany, and marketed in India by Sanofi India Limited.

How It Works

After injection under the skin, the concentrated Insulin Glargine forms a compact depot from which insulin is released slowly and evenly over more than 24 hours. This mimics the body’s natural background insulin. It helps muscle and fat cells take up glucose from the blood and stops the liver from releasing excess sugar, keeping fasting and between-meal blood sugar levels under control with a lower risk of night-time lows.

How to Use

• Inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm once daily, at about the same time each day, as prescribed.
• Use only with the TouStar pen; do not draw insulin from the cartridge with a syringe.
• Rotate injection sites to prevent skin lumps, and never mix with other insulins.
• Check your blood sugar regularly and follow your doctor’s dose instructions carefully.

Safety Advice

• This is a prescription medicine; use only under medical supervision.
• Low blood sugar (sweating, shaking, confusion, fast heartbeat) is the most common side effect; keep sugar or glucose tablets handy.
• Do not switch between Toujeo and other insulins without your doctor’s advice, as dose adjustments may be needed.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Store unopened cartridges at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light; do not freeze. Once in use, keep below 30°C for up to six weeks.
