Monurol Granules

Monurol Granules is a single-dose oral antibiotic sachet used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI) and cystitis in adult women. Each sachet contains Fosfomycin Trometamol equivalent to 3 gm of Fosfomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic that works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis, causing the bacteria responsible for the infection to weaken and die off. Its biggest advantage over conventional multi-day antibiotic courses is convenience: a single sachet, taken once, is generally sufficient to clear an uncomplicated lower UTI, which also helps improve treatment compliance.

Fosfomycin achieves high concentrations in the urine that stay effective for around 48 hours, giving it time to act on common UTI-causing organisms such as E. coli. Because it works through a mechanism distinct from penicillins, cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones, it remains a useful option even for infections caused by organisms that have developed resistance to other antibiotic classes, and it is often considered when a fast, low-pill-burden regimen is preferred.

To use Monurol Granules, empty the entire contents of one sachet into a glass (not a cup) of water, stir well to dissolve, and drink immediately, preferably on an empty stomach, ideally at bedtime after emptying the bladder. Do not take it as a dry powder and do not mix it with hot water. Most patients notice symptom improvement within a couple of days, but the full course (a single dose) should be considered complete only as directed by the prescribing doctor; symptoms that persist beyond 2-3 days should be reported back for review.
