Finabald-2.5 Tablet – Finasteride IP 2.5 mg by East West Pharma
Finabald-2.5 from East West Pharma is a film-coated tablet of Finasteride IP 2.5 mg. The strength is the point of interest here: the two strengths of finasteride most people know are 1 mg for male pattern hair loss and 5 mg for an enlarged prostate, and 2.5 mg sits deliberately between them. Prescribers reach for an intermediate dose when 1 mg has not held the ground it needed to over a fair trial, on the reasoning that suppression of scalp DHT is dose-related – though the dose-response curve flattens above 1 mg, so the extra suppression is modest rather than proportional. The mechanism is unchanged: finasteride inhibits 5-alpha reductase type II, the enzyme converting testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, the androgen that progressively miniaturises follicles on a susceptible scalp. The strength and duration are entirely a matter for your doctor – this is not a dose to move to on your own. Strip of 10 tablets, from a 10 x 10 pack.

Uses & Benefits
- Reduces dihydrotestosterone, the androgen behind follicle miniaturisation
- An intermediate strength where the prescriber wants more than 1 mg
- Taken once a day, with or without food
- Works to hold existing hair rather than to regrow what is long gone
- Commonly combined with topical minoxidil, which acts by a separate route
- Film-coated, so an intact tablet can be handled safely
Directions for Use
- Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes – the pack states the dosage is as directed by the physician
- Swallow whole; do not break, crush or chew. The film coat is the barrier that keeps the drug off skin
- Do not step up to this strength from 1 mg on your own. The decision belongs to the prescriber
- Take it at the same time each day, with or without food
- Allow at least 6 months of continuous use before judging the result, and expect the benefit to fade once you stop
Precautions
- The pack carries this warning: crushed or broken tablets should not be handled by women who are or may become pregnant. Finasteride absorbed through the skin can harm a male foetus. The film coating protects against contact with an intact tablet – do not break or crush them
- The pack also states that because finasteride is present in semen, male patients should wear a condom or otherwise avoid exposing a female partner at risk of becoming pregnant
- Not for use by women or children. Women of childbearing potential must not take it or handle broken tablets
- Finasteride lowers PSA readings by roughly half. Tell any doctor arranging a prostate test that you take it, or a raised result may be missed
- Reduced libido, erectile difficulty and reduced ejaculate volume occur in a small percentage and usually resolve on stopping. Persistent symptoms after stopping have been reported – discuss this with your doctor before starting
- Report breast lumps, breast pain or nipple discharge, any depression or mood change, or swelling of the lips or face straight away. Tell your doctor about liver disease
Storage
- Store in a cool place. Protect from light and moisture, as printed on the pack
- Keep the tablets in the blister until use
- Keep out of reach of children
