Tafnat Tablet – Tenofovir Alafenamide 25 mg by Natco

Tafnat Tablet from Natco Pharma contains Tenofovir Alafenamide (TAF) 25 mg for chronic hepatitis B virus infection. TAF is a prodrug refinement of older tenofovir: it delivers the active drug more efficiently into liver cells, so an effective dose is achieved at roughly a tenth of the older tenofovir disoproxil dose. That matters clinically, because the lower circulating levels mean less strain on the kidneys and bone density – the two long-standing drawbacks of tenofovir therapy. Hepatitis B treatment is long-term suppression rather than a fixed curative course. Bottle of 30 tablets. Prescription required.

Key Features

  • Tenofovir Alafenamide 25 mg – the newer, targeted tenofovir prodrug
  • Gentler on kidneys and bone than tenofovir disoproxil
  • Effective at roughly a tenth of the older tenofovir dose
  • Once-daily tablet, taken with food
  • Bottle of 30 tablets from Natco Pharma Ltd.

Composition

  • Tenofovir Alafenamide – 25 mg per tablet

Refer to the pack label and package insert for the complete list of excipients.

Uses & Benefits

  • Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults
  • Prevents the virus multiplying, lowering HBV DNA levels
  • Reduces liver inflammation and helps normalise liver enzymes
  • Better renal and bone safety profile than older tenofovir formulations
  • Suits patients needing long-term therapy or with kidney or bone concerns
  • Lowers the long-term risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed – usually one tablet once daily
  • Take with food, which improves absorption
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush or break it
  • Take at the same time each day and do not stop without medical advice
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next is near; never double up

Precautions

  • Do not stop abruptly. Stopping HBV therapy can cause a severe hepatitis flare – liver function must be monitored for months after any planned stop
  • Lactic acidosis and severe liver enlargement with fatty change have been reported with nucleotide analogues – seek urgent care for unusual muscle pain, severe tiredness or breathlessness
  • HIV testing is needed before starting – using it with undiagnosed HIV can cause HIV drug resistance
  • Use with caution in severe kidney disease; kidney function is monitored during treatment
  • Avoid alcohol, which adds to liver damage
  • May cause dizziness or sleepiness – do not drive until you know how it affects you; consult your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place
  • Keep in the original bottle with the cap closed, protected from light and moisture
  • Keep out of reach of children
