Telma-AM from Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd is one of the most recognised telmisartan-amlodipine combinations sold in India, pairing Telmisartan 40 mg with Amlodipine 5 mg. The two act through different mechanisms: telmisartan blocks the hormone signal that narrows blood vessels, while amlodipine relaxes the vessel walls directly – together giving more complete blood pressure control than either alone. It is prescribed when a single blood pressure medicine has not brought readings to target, and aims to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and kidney complications associated with sustained high blood pressure. Precautions

• Highly unsafe in pregnancy – can cause serious harm to the unborn baby, including birth defects. May be unsafe while breastfeeding.
• Unsafe in liver disease and should generally be avoided.
• May cause dizziness or drowsiness and reduce alertness – take care while driving or operating machinery.
• Ankle swelling, headache, tiredness, sleepiness and mild stomach upset are recognised effects of the amlodipine component.
