Bimat LS Eye Drop

Bimat LS Eye Drop is a specialized ophthalmic solution formulated primarily for the management of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. As a synthetic analogue of prostamide, it belongs to a class of medications known as prostaglandin analogues. In patients with glaucoma, the fluid inside the eye (aqueous humor) does not drain properly, leading to increased intraocular pressure (IOP). If left untreated, this elevated pressure can damage the optic nerve, resulting in permanent vision loss. Bimat LS provides a “low strength” (LS) clinical approach to effectively lowering this internal pressure, making it a vital therapeutic intervention for long-term ocular health and the prevention of progressive blindness.

Key Features

  • Highly efficient at lowering intraocular pressure in patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma.
  • Enhances both major natural drainage routes of the eye for consistent pressure control.
  • By controlling IOP, it directly helps prevent the nerve damage that leads to peripheral vision loss.
  • Designed to provide therapeutic benefits with a focus on improved local tolerability for sensitive eyes.
  • Formulated for long-lasting action, typically requiring only one application every 24 hours.

Key Ingredients

  • Bimatoprost (0.01% w/v)
  • Benzalkonium Chloride
  • Isotonic Buffered Vehicle

Precautions

  • This medication is a potent glaucoma treatment and must be used only under the constant supervision of an ophthalmologist.
  • Long-term use may cause a permanent increase in the brown pigmentation of the iris and darkening of the eyelid skin.
  • It may cause eyelashes to become longer, thicker, and darker over time.
  • Remove lenses before application. The preservative (Benzalkonium Chloride) can be absorbed by soft lenses and discolor them. Wait 15 minutes before reinserting.
  • Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination and potential eye infections.

How to Use

  • Wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  • Hold the dropper directly over the eye and instill exactly one drop into the pocket. Close your eye gently and press your finger against the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute.
  • This prevents the medication from draining into the tear duct and entering the bloodstream. The typical dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) once daily, preferably in the evening.
  • If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes between different types of drops.
