Bimat LS Eye Drops

Bimat LS (Bimatoprost 0.01%) is a low-strength ophthalmic solution primarily used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. As a synthetic prostaglandin analog, it works by increasing the natural outflow of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye) through the uveoscleral pathway. The “LS” (Low Strength) formulation is specifically designed to provide effective pressure control while significantly reducing common side effects like eye redness and irritation that are often associated with higher concentrations. By maintaining stable internal eye pressure, Bimat LS helps prevent damage to the optic nerve and preserves long-term vision in chronic ocular conditions.

Key Features

  • Formulated at 0.01% to minimize conjunctival hyperemia (redness) compared to standard 0.03% drops.
  • Effectively lowers eye pressure by facilitating the drainage of excess intraocular fluid.
  • Critical for preventing the progression of glaucoma-related vision loss and optic nerve damage.
  • A single daily application provides consistent pressure regulation throughout a 24-hour cycle.
  • Like other bimatoprost solutions, it may gradually increase the thickness and darkness of eyelashes over time.

Key Ingredients

  • Bimatoprost (0.01% w/v): The active prostaglandin analog that stimulates fluid drainage within the eye.
  • Benzalkonium Chloride: A preservative used to maintain the sterility of the solution throughout the usage period.
  • Isotonic Vehicle: A pH-balanced aqueous solution designed to match the natural environment of the eye.

Precautions

  • May cause permanent brown pigmentation of the iris (the colored part of the eye) or darkening of the eyelid skin.
  • Remove contact lenses before use. The preservative can be absorbed by soft lenses; wait 15 minutes before reinserting.
  • Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any surface. This can lead to serious eye infections and vision loss.
  • Use with caution. Consult your ophthalmologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • If you experience sudden vision changes, eye pain, or eyelid swelling, contact your doctor immediately.

How to Use

  • Apply one drop into the affected eye(s) exactly once daily, preferably in the evening.
  • Do not use more than once daily, as more frequent dosing may actually decrease the pressure-lowering effect.
  • Pull down the lower lid, instill the drop, and close your eye. Press the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) for 1 minute to limit systemic absorption.
  • Always wash your hands before and after applying the drops.
  • Store the bottle at room temperature (15°C to 25°C) and keep it tightly closed when not in use.
