FML Liquifilm Eye Drops

FML Liquifilm (Fluorometholone 0.1%) is a sterile ophthalmic suspension used to treat inflammation of the eye. Fluorometholone is a specialized corticosteroid that effectively reduces the swelling, redness, and itching associated with inflammatory conditions of the conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe. The “Liquifilm” vehicle is a unique lubricating base that helps the medication adhere to the ocular surface, providing enhanced comfort and ensuring the active steroid remains in contact with the eye for a longer duration. FML is often preferred by eye specialists for its effective anti-inflammatory action with a lower risk of increasing intraocular pressure compared to many other topical steroids.

Key Features

  • Effectively manages non-infectious inflammatory conditions of the eye.
  • Features a specialized vehicle that provides a soothing, lubricating effect upon application.
  • Formulated to be gentler on eye pressure than high-potency corticosteroids, making it suitable for specific patient profiles.
  • Quickly alleviates discomfort from redness, burning, and ocular swelling.
  • Frequently used to manage inflammation following certain ophthalmic procedures or surgeries.

Key Ingredients

  • Fluorometholone (0.1% w/v)
  • Liquifilm (Polyvinyl Alcohol)
  • Benzalkonium Chloride

Precautions

  • Always shake the bottle thoroughly before each use to ensure the medication is properly suspended.
  • Prolonged use of ocular steroids may result in increased intraocular pressure (IOP) or cataract formation. Use only under strict medical supervision.
  • Do not use FML if you have a viral, fungal, or untreated bacterial eye infection, as steroids can mask or worsen these conditions.
  • Remove contact lenses before application. The preservative can be absorbed by soft lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
  • Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye or eyelids, to prevent contamination.

How to Use

  • The standard dose is typically one drop into the conjunctival sac 2 to 4 times daily, or as precisely directed by your ophthalmologist.
  • Tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid, and instill the drop. Close your eye and apply gentle pressure to the tear duct for 1 minute.
  • During the first 24 to 48 hours, your doctor may suggest a higher frequency (every hour) depending on the severity of inflammation.
  • Do not stop using the drops abruptly. Your doctor will provide a schedule to gradually reduce the frequency.
  • Store the bottle upright at room temperature. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use.
