Caracsol Eye Drop – Potassium Iodide Collyrium by Dey’s

Caracsol Eye Drop from Dey’s Medical Stores is a sterile ophthalmic collyrium containing Potassium Iodide IP 3.3% w/v, Sodium Chloride IP 0.83% w/v and Calcium Chloride Dihydrate IP 1.0% w/v. Iodide collyria have a long history in Indian ophthalmic practice, where they are prescribed as supportive care in immature or early-stage cataract and in vitreous opacities. The sodium and calcium salts keep the solution close to the natural salt balance of the tear film, so the drops sit comfortably on the eye surface. It is important to be clear about what this medicine is: it is an adjunct used alongside regular eye examination, not a cure. An established cataract can only be treated by surgery, and Caracsol should be used on the advice of an eye specialist who is monitoring the condition. Supplied in a 10 ml dropper bottle.

Key Features

  • Potassium Iodide IP 3.3% w/v – the active constituent of the collyrium
  • Sodium and calcium salts that keep the solution near the tear film’s own balance
  • Sterile ophthalmic solution in a 10 ml dropper bottle
  • Prescribed as supportive care in early cataract and vitreous opacity
  • From Dey’s, a long-established Indian ophthalmic manufacturer

Composition

  • Potassium Iodide IP – 3.3% w/v
  • Sodium Chloride IP – 0.83% w/v
  • Calcium Chloride Dihydrate IP – 1.0% w/v
  • Methyl Hydroxybenzoate IP 0.023% w/v and Propyl Hydroxybenzoate IP 0.011% w/v (preservatives)

Uses & Benefits

  • Supportive treatment in immature and early-stage cataract, as prescribed
  • Used by ophthalmologists in the management of vitreous opacities
  • Helps keep the eye surface comfortable during long-term use
  • Isotonic salt content means the drops are well tolerated on instillation
  • Convenient dropper bottle for regular daily use at home
  • A long-established, low-cost option within a specialist’s treatment plan

Directions for Use

  • Use only as directed by your physician – the pack specifies no fixed dose
  • Wash your hands, tilt your head back and pull the lower lid down to form a small pocket
  • Instil the prescribed number of drops without letting the nozzle touch the eye, lashes or fingers
  • Close the eye for 1–2 minutes and press gently at the inner corner near the nose
  • Replace the cap straight after use; if you use other eye drops, leave at least 5 minutes between them

Precautions

  • Contains iodine. Tell your doctor if you have a thyroid disorder, a goitre, or any sensitivity to iodine before using this medicine
  • Discard the bottle one month after opening, and discard it sooner if the solution turns cloudy or dark brown
  • Do not touch the nozzle tip to any surface – this contaminates the solution
  • Contains paraben preservatives: remove contact lenses before instilling and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in
  • Vision may blur briefly after a drop – do not drive or operate machinery until it clears
  • Stop and consult your physician if irritation persists or increases. Report any sudden drop in vision, eye pain or redness promptly

Storage

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture
  • Do not freeze, and keep the cap tightly closed between uses
  • Keep out of the sight and reach of children
