The 4% strength is a moderate one, often chosen so the skin can adjust gradually. It is applied as a thin layer once or twice a day as directed by the doctor, only on the affected areas.

Some dryness, redness, peeling or mild stinging is common during the first weeks. Benzoyl peroxide can bleach hair, towels and pillowcases, so apply it carefully. Avoid the eyes, lips and inside of the nose, and use a sunscreen in the daytime.
