Pirfetab 801mg Tablet is the full maintenance strength of pirfenidone from Zydus Cadila, supplied as a pack of ten tablets. It is used in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, where healthy lung tissue is slowly replaced by stiff scar and breathing becomes progressively restricted. As the scarring widens the lungs expand less and oxygen uptake into the bloodstream falls. Pirfenidone blocks several of the pathways driving fibrosis and reduces the inflammation that accompanies the process. A single 801mg tablet provides one third of the standard full daily intake, so three tablets complete a day. Doctors move patients up to this strength only once the lower doses have been well tolerated. Taking each dose with food clearly reduces nausea, heartburn and loss of appetite.
