Pirfenex 801mg Tablet is the full maintenance strength of Cipla pirfenidone range, supplied in a pack of ten tablets. It is used in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung disease marked by thickening and scarring of the tissue that surrounds the air sacs. As fibrosis spreads the lungs cannot expand freely, and oxygen transfer into the blood becomes less efficient. Pirfenidone blocks several of the pathways that drive this scarring and reduces the inflammatory activity that accompanies it. At 801mg a single tablet covers one third of the usual full daily intake, so three tablets a day complete a standard regimen. Doctors move patients to this strength only after lower doses have been tolerated without difficulty. Each dose is taken with food, which noticeably reduces nausea, heartburn and loss of appetite. Blood tests for liver function are carried out before starting and at intervals during therapy.
