Abaxis 2.5mg Tablet

Abaxis 2.5mg Tablet is an anticoagulant (blood thinner) used to prevent and treat harmful blood clots in the body. It is commonly prescribed for patients with an irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation) to lower the risk of stroke, and for patients who have undergone elective knee or hip replacement surgery to reduce the risk of clot formation in the legs and lungs. It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), helping to prevent existing clots from worsening and lowering the risk of recurrence.

Abaxis 2.5mg Tablet can be taken with or without food, and should be taken at the same time every day for consistent results. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water; it should not be crushed, chewed, or broken. Treatment may need to continue for an extended period, and in some cases for life, so the medicine should never be stopped or the dose changed without a doctor’s guidance, as doing so can quickly raise the risk of a heart attack, stroke, or thrombosis.

The active ingredient, Apixaban, is a novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) that works by directly and selectively inhibiting Factor Xa, a key clotting factor involved in thrombin generation. By reducing thrombin formation, it helps prevent the development and spread of blood clots. Unlike older anticoagulants such as warfarin, it does not require regular blood monitoring (PT-INR testing).
