Augmentin 1000 Duo Tablet

Augmentin 1000 Duo Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs (such as pneumonia), ear, nasal sinus, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissue. It combines Amoxycillin, a penicillin-class antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that blocks the enzyme many resistant bacteria use to neutralise antibiotics, restoring and enhancing Amoxycillin’s effectiveness against a broader range of bacterial strains.

Amoxycillin works by preventing bacteria from forming their protective outer covering, which is essential for their survival. Without this covering, the bacteria are unable to grow and multiply, and the infection is gradually cleared. Clavulanic Acid does not fight the infection on its own but plays a crucial supporting role, making the combination effective even against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant to Amoxycillin alone. Augmentin 1000 Duo Tablet will not work against infections caused by viruses, such as the common cold or flu.

This medicine is best taken with a meal to reduce the chance of stomach upset, and tablets should be swallowed whole, not chewed or crushed. It should be taken at evenly spaced intervals, at the same time each day, for the full duration prescribed by the doctor. It is important to complete the entire course of treatment even after symptoms improve, since stopping early can allow surviving bacteria to cause the infection to return, potentially in a more resistant form.
