Glucored Forte 850 Tablet carries the highest metformin load in the Glucored family, combining Glibenclamide 5 mg with Metformin Hydrochloride 850 mg in one uncoated tablet. Doctors reach for this strength when a person with type 2 diabetes needs a larger biguanide dose to bring fasting glucose down but is already stable on 5 mg of glibenclamide. Because the metformin content is higher, it is usually introduced gradually and always taken with food to reduce stomach upset. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries manufactures it as a Schedule G prescription medicine in strips of 10 tablets.

Precautions

• Prescription-only medicine – take it strictly as directed and never adjust the dose on your own
• Can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar); carry glucose or sugar and learn the warning signs such as sweating, shakiness, hunger and confusion
• Nausea, a metallic taste, loose stools, bloating and reduced appetite are the most common effects and usually settle with time
• Not suitable in significant kidney or liver impairment, severe infection, dehydration or diabetic ketoacidosis because of the risk of lactic acidosis
• Tell your doctor before any surgery or contrast X-ray scan, and avoid alcohol, which increases both hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk
• Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise; keep the strip out of reach of children

Storage

• Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place
• Keep the tablets in the original strip, protected from light and moisture
• Do not use after the printed expiry date and keep away from children
