Glucored Forte Tablet is Sun Pharma’s full-strength glibenclamide and metformin combination, containing Glibenclamide 5 mg with Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg per uncoated tablet. It is one of the most widely prescribed dual-therapy tablets for type 2 diabetes in India and is typically chosen when a single agent no longer holds fasting and post-meal readings in range. The sulfonylurea component pushes the pancreas to secrete more insulin, while the biguanide component reduces hepatic glucose output and helps the body use the insulin it already makes. Each strip contains 10 tablets.

Directions for Use

• Use only on a doctor’s prescription, usually one tablet with breakfast or the main meal
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; never break or chew it
• Never take a dose on an empty stomach or skip the meal that follows it
• If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless the next dose is close – do not double up
• Continue home glucose monitoring and periodic HbA1c testing as advised

Precautions

• Prescription-only medicine – take it strictly as directed and never adjust the dose on your own
• Can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar); carry glucose or sugar and learn the warning signs such as sweating, shakiness, hunger and confusion
• Nausea, a metallic taste, loose stools, bloating and reduced appetite are the most common effects and usually settle with time
• Not suitable in significant kidney or liver impairment, severe infection, dehydration or diabetic ketoacidosis because of the risk of lactic acidosis
• Tell your doctor before any surgery or contrast X-ray scan, and avoid alcohol, which increases both hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk
• Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise; keep the strip out of reach of children

Storage

• Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place
• Keep the tablets in the original strip, protected from light and moisture
• Do not use after the printed expiry date and keep away from children
