Glucored Tablet

Glucored Tablet from Sun Pharmaceutical Industries is a fixed-dose anti-diabetic combination that pairs Glibenclamide 2.5 mg with Metformin Hydrochloride 400 mg in a single uncoated tablet. It is the lower-strength member of the Glucored range and is generally prescribed when a person with type 2 diabetes needs more than metformin alone but does not yet require a full-strength sulfonylurea dose. Glibenclamide prompts the pancreas to release additional insulin while metformin curbs excess glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat tissue, so the two work on different parts of the same problem. Supplied as a strip of 10 tablets.

Key Features

  • Fixed-dose combination of Glibenclamide 2.5 mg and Metformin 400 mg
  • Lower-strength option in the Glucored range for gentler dose stepping
  • Two complementary mechanisms – insulin release plus improved insulin sensitivity
  • Manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, a trusted Indian maker
  • Convenient strip of 10 uncoated tablets, with larger packs available

Composition

  • Glibenclamide – 2.5 mg
  • Metformin Hydrochloride – 400 mg

Uses & Benefits

  • Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are not enough
  • Combines two complementary actions in one tablet, reducing the number of pills taken each day
  • Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin, lowering blood glucose after meals
  • Metformin lowers glucose production by the liver and improves the body’s response to insulin
  • Helps bring fasting and post-meal sugar readings closer to the target range set by your doctor
  • Better long-term glycaemic control supports protection of the eyes, kidneys, nerves and heart

Directions for Use

  • Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor – usually one tablet with or just after a meal
  • Swallow whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew the tablet
  • Take it at the same time each day and never skip a meal after a dose
  • Do not double the dose if you miss one – skip it and continue with the next scheduled dose
  • Keep monitoring your blood sugar and attend follow-up reviews as advised

Precautions

  • Prescription-only medicine – take it strictly as directed and never adjust the dose on your own
  • Can cause hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar); carry glucose or sugar and learn the warning signs such as sweating, shakiness, hunger and confusion
  • Nausea, a metallic taste, loose stools, bloating and reduced appetite are the most common effects and usually settle with time
  • Not suitable in significant kidney or liver impairment, severe infection, dehydration or diabetic ketoacidosis because of the risk of lactic acidosis
  • Tell your doctor before any surgery or contrast X-ray scan, and avoid alcohol, which increases both hypoglycaemia and lactic acidosis risk
  • Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise; keep the strip out of reach of children

Storage

  • Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place
  • Keep the tablets in the original strip, protected from light and moisture
  • Do not use after the printed expiry date and keep away from children
