Ondem Syrup – Ondansetron for Nausea & Vomiting by Alkem

Ondem Syrup from Alkem Laboratories contains Ondansetron 2 mg/5 ml, an antiemetic used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery or infection. It works by blocking serotonin (5-HT3) receptors in the gut and brain that trigger the vomiting reflex, giving relief and preventing dehydration and weakness caused by repeated vomiting. Bottle of 30 ml, commonly used for children.

Directions for Use

• May be given before or after meals, as advised by the doctor
• For chemotherapy: give 30 minutes before the procedure; for radiotherapy, 1–2 hours before; for surgery, 1 hour before
• If vomited out within 30 minutes of a dose, the dose may be repeated – do not double the next scheduled dose

Precautions

• Schedule H prescription drug – not to be sold without a registered medical practitioner’s prescription
• May cause headache, constipation, diarrhea or fatigue
• Inform the doctor about other medicines being taken, including painkillers and antibiotics
• Inform the doctor of any history of liver, kidney, heart or gastrointestinal problems, or known allergies
