Vet Thyro Tablet – Levothyroxine for Hypothyroid Dogs by Vivaldis

Vet Thyro from Vivaldis Animal Health & Food is Levothyroxine Sodium formulated specifically for dogs, supplied in two strengths – 0.2 mg and 0.6 mg – in strips of 30 tablets. Hypothyroidism is one of the more common endocrine diagnoses in adult and older dogs, particularly in mid-to-large breeds, and it presents with a fairly recognisable pattern: unexplained weight gain despite a normal appetite, low energy, a dull or thinning coat, and a tendency to seek out warm spots. Unlike human levothyroxine tablets, which are dosed in micrograms, veterinary levothyroxine for dogs is dosed in milligrams because canine dosing requirements per kilogram of body weight are substantially higher than in humans – which is exactly why a dog cannot simply be given a human Euthyrox tablet at a scaled-down fraction. The two strengths let a vet titrate the dose to the individual dog’s weight and response, confirmed by follow-up thyroid blood testing.

Directions for Use

• Tablets can usually be given directly or hidden in a small amount of food if the dog resists tablets
• Do not change the strength or skip doses without veterinary advice
• Follow-up thyroid blood testing is usually needed 4 to 8 weeks after starting or changing the dose

Precautions

• This is a prescription veterinary medicine. Hypothyroidism should be confirmed by a veterinarian with blood testing before starting treatment, not assumed from symptoms alone
• Do not give a dog’s levothyroxine dose to a cat or use human tablets as a substitute without veterinary guidance – dosing differs significantly between species
• Tell the treating veterinarian about any heart condition; thyroid replacement is usually started at a lower dose and increased gradually in dogs with cardiac disease
• Signs of over-replacement include restlessness, rapid heart rate, panting and weight loss – report these to your vet
• Do not stop treatment abruptly once started; hypothyroidism in dogs is typically a lifelong condition requiring continuous management
• Keep all strengths clearly labelled and stored separately to avoid accidental dosing errors
