NexPRO-40 from Torrent Pharmaceuticals is an enteric-coated tablet of Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate IP equivalent to Esomeprazole 40 mg. It is the conventional, delayed-release member of the NexPRO family, and it is worth knowing how it differs from NexPRO Fast 40, which shares the same strength. This one is enteric-coated: the tablet survives the stomach intact and dissolves in the small intestine, which means absorption begins about an hour after the dose and the timing relative to meals genuinely matters – it should be taken 30 to 60 minutes before food, because a proton pump inhibitor can only disable pumps that are already switched on. That makes it the right choice for planned, sustained acid control over weeks, where the Fast version suits immediate relief. Colours: Red Oxide of Iron and Titanium Dioxide IP. Uses & Benefits

• Treats GERD, heartburn, acid regurgitation and reflux oesophagitis

Directions for Use

• Take it 30 to 60 minutes before a meal, usually before breakfast, or exactly as your doctor directs
• Swallow it whole with water. Do not chew, crush or break it – the enteric coating is what gets the drug past stomach acid intact
• Take it at the same time each day, and finish the full course even if the symptoms settle early
• If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless the next is nearly due. Never take two together
• Avoid or limit alcohol, smoking, and food that triggers your symptoms while you are being treated

Precautions

• Take it 30 to 60 minutes before food, not after. A proton pump inhibitor only shuts down pumps that are actively working, and they switch on when you eat – taken after a meal it does a fraction of the job
• These are not antacids and do not work in minutes. Full acid suppression builds over three to five days
• Long-term use is not harmless. Months or years of treatment are linked to low magnesium, low vitamin B12, reduced calcium absorption and a higher fracture risk, and to gut infections such as C. difficile. Use the lowest dose for the shortest time that controls symptoms
• Do not stop a long course abruptly – acid can rebound above where it started, and the symptoms can be mistaken for the original problem returning
• Tell your doctor about difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools or unintended weight loss. Acid suppression can mask a more serious problem
• Tell your doctor about liver disease, low magnesium, and every other medicine you take – especially clopidogrel, methotrexate, digoxin, antifungals, HIV medicines and warfarin

Storage

• Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C, protected from light and moisture, as printed on the carton
• Swallow the whole tablet; do not crush or chew
• Keep out of reach of children
